A local astronomer in Cheadle captured photographs of a rare solar eclipse on 11 August, when the moon passed between the sun and the earth, briefly turning day to night across the UK.

Jim Plant, a member of the Royal Astronomical Society, recorded the celestial event using a custom-built viewing box to safely capture images of the phenomenon. Plant shared his photographs and experience with guests during the eclipse.

When is the next eclipse in Cheadle?

Residents will have to wait until 3 September 2081 for the next solar eclipse to be visible from Cheadle.
